The Mothers in My Life

I know it's been a while since I have posted. I don't know why I have been so busy lately, but I have been. Oh, maybe it's because I started back at school last week (which has been an adventure in itself.) Whatever the reason is: I'm back and I am going to write about The Mothers in My Life. I know, I know Mother's Day was last week, but I've been busy, so I am honoring the mothers a week late. I'm sure they won't mind.

(Me and My mom on my first day home)

First there is my Mother. I guess I get my good looks and cheesiness from her.

My mom is always the first person to volunteer to help out with a wedding, or a party, or the super Saturday activity. She is the Relief Society President and when she is not there the ward falls apart (and I'm not exaggerating.) I may have not retained a lot of what my mom tried to teach me, but I think I learned a little bit about gardening...my garden is getting huge! My mom is such a great gardener and she helped me learn the value of self-reliance---(AND how to sport Micky Mouse ears the right way!)
My mom has also been making the cutest little cards for Henry; she is a great grandma too.

Secondly my sister Rachel. She always had that [bossy] motherly instinct. I remember how she would tuck me into bed at night. She would rub my arms and legs and then toss the sheet up in the air like a parachute and then tuck it tightly around me. She also had her share of bad mothering skills like when she chopped my hair off, but hey she had to learn on someone- right?
She is such a good mom and is about to become mom to baby number six! At this point all I can say is 'good luck!'

Next is my sister-in-law Katrine. She is such a good and patient woman. She may not think that she is, but I know for a fact that she deals with a lot more than I would be able to. She is kind and generous and she rarely thinks of herself-to me she is a perfect example of a great mom.
(and I know Katrine, you are probably freaking out about the picture, but we don't have ANY pictures together.)

Then there are my grandmothers:
Grandma Kirby is such a great example to me. She has been dutifully doing our family genealogy, a task that seems very daunting to me.
(Grandma and the Grandchildren)

I have such good memories of playing in her big back yard and climbing all over her rock fire place in the basement. Most of all I enjoyed spending lazy Sundays swinging on her hammock.

Shirley is my Step-Grandma, but over the years she has become part of the family. She always sends the greatest e-mails and cards to me. She loves our little Henry and is always wondering how he is doing. Just this past April my Grandpa showed me around Shirley's craft room-what a talented woman!

Then there is my dear sweet Grandma Williams. I miss her so much. I keep expecting to pick of the phone and hear her sweet voice, "Heidi, it's your Grandma." I knew in the back of my mind that one day she would die, everyone has to die, I just didn't think it would be so soon. She was the kindest, sweetest, most honest person I knew. She was so concerned about everyone else. She was truly selfless. I don't know if I will ever get over how much I miss her.

I have learned so much from these great women. I hope that I can be 1/2 the mother that they are. I appreciate their example, especially since I am a mother now.

Mother's don't get enough credit-so Thank you moms! And Happy Mother's Day.
Lastly to all of the other mommies out there-Happy Belated Mother's Day to you!

Oh, thank you Heidi! You are so sweet? Why don't we have pictures together? And we need a little caption that sates I'm pregnant in that photo! I just look like I have a poochy stomach!

What a great tribute to some impressive women. As I was reading I thought, I had no idea Crystal was the RS President, and how long has it been since I went to the 3rd ward. It took me a solid 5 minutes to figure out they don't live there anymore! Also, I can't believe Rachel is on to number 6! I know I've told you before but Henry is darling!
