I don't know why but fate has made Heidi and I to live in some truly weird places. Utah, definitely odd; Las Vegas, need I say more; and then there was Texas. Sure, I like it in Texas (though Houston is not really my kind of town) but there are a lot of quirks. These oddities are seen in movies, TV, books, and magazines but until you actually get to see them first hand it just isn't the same. So, Heidi and I put together a little quiz of things we have noticed over the past year. Test yourself, the answers are at the end. 1. If one says, "I am gong to the H.E.B.," where is this person going?
a) Deep sea fishing
b) A topless gentleman's club
c) A supermarket
2. Fill in the blank: I am _______ to go to the Kemah Boardwalk.
a) fixin'
b) going
c) planning
3. What is a "Texas Speedbump?"
a) A mound of gravel and cement
b) A limb from a tree that has fallen onto the road
c) An armadillo
4. A significant percentage of cars in the Houston area have a decal on the back window of their vehicle that has the numbers 100 or 200 or 300 and up. What do these decals represent?
a) Prepaid toll road EZ passes
b) Membership in a popular masonic lodge
c) Membership to a local club supporting Houston police/firefighters
5. What is a "kolache?"
a) Pastry known elsewhere as a "bearclaw"
b) Pastry similar to a roll filled with fruit or meat or potatoes, etc.
c) Pastry laced with a coffee
6. What is the beverage of choice?
a) Beer
b) Water
c) Ice Tea
7. Fill in the blank: Hey guys, what are ________ planning for Easter?
a) ya'll
b) you
c) they
8. What is "Texas Caviar?"
a) Similar to regular caviar but made from turtle eggs rather than fish eggs
b) A salsa like condiment made with black-eye peas
c) Spicy ketchup
9. How many different ways do Texans prepare okra?
a) 4
b) 23
c) 97
10. I have seen exactly two hills in the Houston area that are at least a few stories in elevation. What are these hills made from?
a) Man made dirt hills
b) Sand dunes
c) Garbage dumps
Well, how do you think you did? Let me add a few disclaimers. Some of these questions pertain to the Houston area only so that might make them more difficult but others are true throughout the state. Every state has their own unique characteristics but Utah, Nevada, and now Texas are extra special. I am so thankful that we have had the opportunity see so many neat places and interesting things and meet so many great people. Check your answers, you might be surprised on a few (but probably not, it wasn't very hard).
1. c, 2. a, 3. c, 4. c, 5. b, 6. a or c is acceptable, they love them both, yep, 2 parts beer and 2 parts ice tea, mmm, can't beat it, 7. a, 8. b, 9. I'm not really sure but there is a lot including fried, steamed, broiled, boiled, sautéed..., 10. c

I was 10/10 and so proud.
The one thing I am curious about Texas is if I sing, "The stars at night are big and bright" in a crowd, will everyone reply, "deep in the heart of Texas"? Man, I hope they do, because the Pee Wee's Big Adventure Texas is the one I like to believe in.
I didn't know what a "kolache" was. For number 6 I said Ice tea so I lucked out and got that one right and then number 9 I said 97, but there is no real answer. So I will say I got a 9 out of 10. I do have to admit some of my answers were lucky guesses, like what the decal numbers on your car meant. I think I got so many right from living in the south, like Vegas and in the southern part of Virginia.

I love being a native Texan. Quirky is good.
I got most of these right, thanks to my visits to Katrine's houses.
And Kira asked my same question!!!
I got 100% correct and I don't even like Texas!
