Adventures at Cove Fort

Last week we were driving south on I-15 through Utah. About halfway between Beaver and Fillmore you have probably noticed there are signs for Cove Fort. Well, did you know that Cove Fort is an actual fort? Neither did we?! But we decided to stop and see what it was all about. In addition to church-quality clean bathrooms you can go on a free guided tour of the fort, its courtyard and eight rooms. Cove Fort was kind of like a 19th century roadside motel, who would've thought they even existed/

They decided to put Cove Fort about halfway between Beaver and Fillmore so it was a good place to stop for the night. Can you believe that? Today it takes less than hour to drive the distance! It was a different world back then, eh? But I'm kind of glad I didn't have to ever spend the night there because the fee would get you a couple meals and half a bed with someone of the same gender, even if you were traveling with your wife. Glad I never had to share a bed with some dude at Cove Fort.

At any rate it was fun and it is only a couple miles off I-15. I read in a book awhile back that pointed out we go hundreds, even thousands of miles out of our way to see some attraction yet fail to take advantage of our own immediate surroundings. We are trying to not be like that. They even gave Henry a little pioneer toy...I couldn't figure it out.
