Tis the Season

We just spent more than $20 on Girl Scout Cookies and don't regret it. You see, we like eating Girl Scout Cookies and it helps support a great organization. Our favorite cookie is probably the chocolaty coconutty Samoas but we also like the tasty Thin Mints and the tangy Lemonades.

It's weird though, I was well into my twenties and living in Las Vegas the first time I tasted a Girl Scout Cookie. For some reason I never saw them for sell where I grew up. I wonder why that was the case? Are Girl Scout Cookies more readily available now in Utah? Just curious.

A few years ago I heard a commentary on NPR talking about Girl Scout Cookies. The commentator pointed out that we live in a time of instant gratification, especially when it comes to food. If you have the money and a little time every food item imaginable is readily available. All except Girl Scout Cookies.

They magically appear early in the year and a few short months later they mysteriously disappear and won't be available until the following year. You can't even order them online once the season has passed. Girl Scout Cookies are one of the only food items left in America that is only available during certain time of the year and that's kind of cool. Maybe delayed gratification isn't that bad after all.

Since I did not grow up in Utah I have been eating Girl Scout Cookies my whole life, but this is the first year that I purchased them myself. Nicole got the Tagalongs (her favorite) and I have always enjoyed them all but the little girl scout gave me a sales pitch on their new "Thank U Berry Munch" cookies and I gave in. They are now my favorite.
