FEAR MONGERING!!!
I have been following MSNBC's Keith Oberman since he was an ESPN reporter while I was in high school. I really appreciated Olberman's recent attack on fear mongering on the subject of health care reform. From a religious perspective everything I have been taught and studied throughout my life makes it crystal clear I have nothing to fear in this life. God and my judgment before Him is the only fear I should have so when fears surface I should refute them and shake them off as soon as possible. I absolutely HATE IT when politicians, spokespersons, media, and other public figures take advantage of American citizens that are uneducated on the issues (and sometimes flat-out ignorant). Please, please, please watch this clip because Olberman made so many good points about the unethical use of fear as a way to get one's way.

I hate fear as much as I can't stand Keith Oberman. Though he hits a good point every now and then, he stands among the ranks of talk show hosts, not journalists, in my book.
Sorry, I'm not impressed. He started with talking about health care reform and then it turned into an attack against Sarah Palin. He is clearly angered by her comments but why does he really care? She is not even holding a current office. I am confused why democrats are upset by people showing up to the town hall meetings and voicing their opinion. They claim the people are ignorant to the health care reform. And yet many of congress have claimed that they haven't even read it. I'm trying to stay informed and so far I'm not impressed with the proposed health care.
Wow. This was a powerful message. If he didn't insult those he disagrees with so much, it would have been all the more credible and persuasive. Unfortunately, he, like many other talk show hosts, takes things personally and personally attacks those he doesn't agree with.
That said, he nailed these examples of fear mongering, propaganda, and manipulation of the mob. He is right in pointing out the horribly flawed logic and unethical tactics employed by Palin, Dobbs, Beck, etc. I'm glad someone is highlighting these abuses of power. Unlike many other talk show hosts, Oberman at least seems like he has an informed opinion, his use of language and rhetoric is impressive.
If he used a lot less inflamatory tactics himself, he'd earn a lot more ethos and could avoid alienating those that hold sympathies with the opposing view.
In the end though, I hope a lot of people watch this and learn something.
